CINCY-CINCO FESTIVAL 2005 –

THE BEST FIESTA LATINA is getting BETTER by the day

CINCINNATI, April 22, 2005 – Organizers of the 2^nd annual Cincy-Cinco Festival announced additional attractions to the event today. The event will take place at Coney Island on April 30, 2005, from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM and May 1, 2005, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM 

As a special highlight of the celebration of Children’s Day (Dia del Niño), direct from Kings Island Dora the Explorer will be at Cincy-Cinco greeting young and old from noon to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, courtesy of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital .  Children’s Day will be a birthday party for all children who attend with plenty of activities for them to enjoy, like making their own Latin American arts and crafts, playing  Latin American AND American games like loteria and cornhole. In addition to Dora the Explorer, other highlights of the weekend for children will be a concert by the Cello Ensemble of the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the debut of a bilingual puppet show by Mad Cap Puppet Theatre.

An additional special event will be the presence of Cincinnati’s newest professional sports team, the Cincinnati Kings, in the Local 12 Sports Pavilion, presented by Fifth Third. The Cincinnati Kings will be there to demonstrate and run soccer skills’ competitions. Additionally, the Cincinnati Reds will be present and will give away a pair of tickets to a Reds’ game for the first 500 kids to arrive on Saturday. Plus see a live taping of Local 12’s Spanish news magazine, Nuestro Rincon, on Saturday afternoon.

As a very unique event on May 1, the Cincy-Cinco festival will establish the record for the looooongest taco in the world.  The “Cincy-Cinco Taco Grandísimo, presented by Kroger”, will be an authentic 72 foot taco assembled with the participation of restaurants at the event.  Sergio Aguilera, Consul General of Mexico for Ohio, will be the special witness at this important event. 

Other activities previously announced include:

The Dance Pavilion will have performances of traditional dances with their rich sounds and colorful costumes from many Latin American countries like Peru, Puerto Rico, Argentina, and Mexico. There will also be lessons and competitions in Salsa and Merengue, for both the experienced and those taking up the dances for the first time.

In the Arts Pavilion, there will be the largest group of Latin American Artists in Tri-State history.  Artists of many different mediums like painting, ceramics, and photography, will be on hand to showcase and sell their art. 

The Food Pavilion will offer authentic Latino food by some of the best local Latino restaurants, such as Taqueria Mercado, Rancho Grande and Casa Tequila.  This year the event will offer a “tarjeta botanera” or “sampling card”, which will allow visitors to sample different authentic Latin American dishes for only $10. 

In the Music Pavilion, presented by Budweiser True Music, there will be a wide variety of local and regional live entertainment covering the gamut from Salsa to Latin Jazz to Mariachi. Performing groups include Sammy DeLeon, Grupe Fuego, Salsa Caliente, the Afro Rican Ensemble, Grupo Son, Latin Xposure, Tropicoso, Mariachi Acero and many more. On Sunday, there will be a special Mariachi Mass at 11:00 AM.

The Health Pavilion will provide an opportunity for local health service providers to share information about resources available to Latinos and the community in general. “Many Latinos arrive here and don’t know that this community has tremendous resources available,” said Lisa Quintanilla, community relations coordinator for the Center for Closing the Health Gap and coordinator of the Health Pavilion.

The Education Pavilion is being organized by the Cincinnati chapter of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs. They will have information and representatives from local colleges and universities to talk about their schools as well as provide tips and information on the application process and how to obtain financing.

The Business Pavilion, presented by PNC Bank, will include participation by the Tri-State’s leading corporations, including Procter & Gamble.   “P&G is proud to be again the Presenting Sponsor for this event,” said Robert Killins, P&G’s Manager of Community Relations for Ohio. He went on: “At P&G we have had a long commitment to both the Hispanic market and the Cincinnati community, so it was only natural for us to support a Hispanic event in Cincinnati as we recognize the growing importance of this market in our global headquarter’s city.”

Other major sponsors include Kroger, Local 12 WKRC-TV, and the Cincinnati Enquirer.  These companies and others will share information about their business, as well as distribute samples of their latest products and services.

Most importantly, all proceeds of this event will be directed to Latino based philanthropies that primarily serve Latinos who recently arrived to the Tri-State.  With the tremendous increase in migration to this area in recent years – which is expected to continue for the foreseeable future - the financial needs of these organizations increases commensurately.  Cincy-Cinco organizers expect to be able to some degree offset those increasing needs

Admission for the event is just $10 for adults.  Children under 16 are free.  Tickets can be purchased in advance, and receive a $2 discount, at area Kroger stores.  Tickets will also be available at the gate.
