How Cinco De
Mayo began
The
holiday of Cinco De Mayo, The Fifth Of May, commemorates the victory of
the Mexicans over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. It
is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the Mexican state capital
city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, but is also celebrated
in other parts of the country and in U.S.cities with a significant Mexican
population.

The History of the Pinata
The origin of the piñata is thought to date back over 700 years
ago to Asia. Marco Polo discovered
the Chinese fashioning figures of cows, oxen or even buffaloes, covering
them with colored paper and adorning them with harnesses and trappings
to greet the New Year. When they knocked the figure hard with sticks
of various colors, seeds spilled forth. The remains were then burned
and people gathered the ashes to bring good luck throughout the year.

History of the
Fiesta de Pueblo
Fiesta
de pueblo or town party has a very long history in the latino world. Its
origin is not quite clear, but it appears to have evolved in Spain,
probably in the 11th or 12th century. In some towns
it was used to celebrate the work of the key craftsmen of the town; in
more rural areas it may have been to celebrate the harvest, much as other
cultures celebrate the harvest.
